What to do on Easter in Cairns

You might be a bit old to have your photo taken with a man in an Easter bunny suit or to run around the yard searching for chocolate eggs, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had on Easter for backpackers in Cairns. Here’s a round-up of all the action that’s hop-pening 🙂

But first, a “Good” Friday warning:

Australian alcohol laws: gotta love ’em. There’s always something new to learn. On Thursday night in Cairns (and the rest of Queensland) alcohol sales will stop at midnight. Keep this in mind if you’re feeling thirsty on Thursday.

Takeaway alcohol is not for sale on Good Friday! Get your booze before the bottle shops close on Thursday because the only alcohol for sale on Friday will be if you order a bevvy with your meal. If you want to go out for a boogie on Friday night, clubs like the Woolshed won’t open until midnight, giving you ample time for pre-drinks.

Easter Weekend at the Woolshed

Easter Weekend Woolshed Cairns

The Woolshed is always a quality time for backpackers. Easter Weekend it’s worth pointing out that there will be:

  • Free drinks for the ladies on Thursday night from 9 PM
  • Live music on Sunday night from Tropic Thunder

Resurrection Party at the Pier Bar

Easter Party The Pier Bar Cairns

What better way to celebrate Easter than with a big pig roast? On Easter head down to the waterfront and enjoy a $5 pork roll hot off the spit during lunch time. Then at night, there will be live music at 8 PM and a DJ until 3 AM.

Bad Bunny Mansion Party at Gilligan’s

Gilligan's Easter Party

As always, Gilligan’s will be doing it big the night of Easter Sunday. Be sure to get in before 10:30 PM to avoid the cover charge.

Edge Hill Block Party

NOA Easter Party

Typically there are so many fun options right in Cairns CBD that I wouldn’t mention anything further afield. However, there’s an ADULT EASTER EGG HUNT happening up in Edge Hill that might be worth the 6-kilometre trip. Split an Uber with your new mates from the hostel or perhaps take advantage of one of our new Tropic Days bicycles

Feeling Posh at the Pullman
